DaCast’s solution offers everything a broadcaster might want from such a platform, including an integrated player, Facebook embedding, transcoding, analytics and a merchant account for monetization. The idea is that if you make live streaming easy to do and inexpensive to set up, it’ll become more practical for broadcasters to take advantage of the platform. One key to DaCast’s streaming-as-a-service business model is that broadcasters only pay for the amount of video that’s actually delivered, rather than paying a monthly license fee to use its platform. What’s new with regard to video for the Apple iPhone 4S? I’m glad you asked: HD Video Capabilities. That’s right, folks, you can record video at 1080p with the new iPhone 4S, which is going to be absolutely huge for some users. There’s also noise reduction and image stabilization included as well. I’ll be curious to get a look at video shot on this thing. Video Messages. The phone will come with iOS 5, which has something called iMessage included. It’s a messaging program for text, photos, and video, making it easy for you to send and share that HD video you just shot on your new iPhone 4S.

Your first video hits YouTube and you get lucky, and you get quite the audience. This is fantastic. People are coming to realize what you thought all along: that you are talented and have a perspective that is unique and entertaining. You get tons of people to subscribe to your channel. They can’t wait to see what you make next. The only problem is, you don’t have a new video planned. Or if you do, it’s going to take weeks before you get it uploaded. Or, you make a video on Thursday one week and then Tuesday the next week, and then Sunday, and no one knows when to visit your channel, or you aren’t maximizing the potential views you could have had by releasing the video at the right time.

Two companies have launched notable video sharing services this week: WeVideo.com and Klip.com. Both have somewhat different approaches but enhance the overall online video experience, especially for mobile users. WeVideo includes editing and 1 GB of cloud storage for free. You can export your video to Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo. Fee-based accounts will be available later in the year that increase the resolution to 1080p and up the storage to 50 GB and add other features. YouTube has had very primitive online browser-based editing tools, as we wrote about last week. This seems like a step in the right direction. Klip has some editing capabilities but its focus is on simplifying the posting of videos from your iPhone and iPads, down to almost a one-tap process. You upload it to their site, and like and tag it similar to how other social media services work. The videos stream and start quickly on your iPhone and you can scroll quickly to particular points in the timeline. It is available as an app to download now and is free. Just how good is the video camera on the iPhone 4S? If a short video from Benjamin Dowie is any indication, we’re going to chalk it up to “amazing.” Dowie shot the footage just after getting his iPhone 4S and as he writes on Vimeo, “Couldn’t believe it came out of a phone.” Looking at the footage, we’re inclined to agree. Dowie gives strong marks to the automatic stabilization, but what really caught our eye was the amazing depth of field. The DoF on my Panasonic GF-1 with a 20mm prime lens just barely outpaces the iPhone 4S — and that’s really saying something.

Yahoo hopes to become the web’s next major online video destination with Screen, a revamped portal for all of its TV shows and premium video content. In addition to Yahoo Screen, Yahoo has announced eight web original shows for the Fall 2011 season, all focused on women.
“When people think video, we want them to think Yahoo,” David Rice, VP of media properties, told Mashable.
The new Yahoo Screen is an aggregation of the video content across all of Yahoo’s verticals, including entertainment, sports and finance. This notably includes content from Hulu, thanks to a licensing deal between the two companies. This means you can catch up on shows like Glee through Yahoo Screen. VYou is a video Q&A platform and video sharing site with an interactive twist.
VYou’s homepage is a cross between the stacked boxes of the Brady Bunch intro and the moving photographs of the Harry Potter series — and the result is just as bizarre as that combination sounds.
If you click on any of the boxes, you can ask its star a question or view their responses to a list of questions that others have asked. You can follow them to receive their new answers in a personal newsfeed. Griddeo is designed to let users find and create their own channels of videos, which can then be watched in a continuous stream. Once a user has logged in with Facebook, Griddeo uses information from their likes and interests on the social network to suggest channels that they might be interested in. Cloud video editing startup Magisto is coming to market with a new service that will take raw video files and make them worth sharing with friends and posting on Facebook, with no manual editing involved. Magisto works like this: Once a user has signed in with Facebook Connect, he or she can upload a single video or multiple videos, which the site analyzes and cuts and edits into more palatable — and interesting — videos. Users can then share those videos on social networks like Facebook or Twitter or email links to friends.
