La vidéo est un moyen d’expression efficace et percutant.  L’association Canal Marches l’a bien compris. Depuis 1997, elle réunit professionnels de l’audiovisuel et militants des mouvements sociaux afin de donner la parole aux personnes issues des milieux populaires.  En 2009, elle lance le projet UPOPA (Université populaire audiovisuelle). Grâce à des ateliers, elle permet aux associations de quartiers de se former au tournage vidéo et  aux habitants des quartiers de devenir réalisateurs et acteurs. L’audiovisuel devient ainsi une manière de s’exprimer et de faire passer des messages.

The idea behind good Placemaking, and using a Place-centered approach when designing a building or public space, is not that each individual within a given community is the expert on what that space should look like, but that the community, as a group, has an important expertise about how that space is used, and how the people most likely to enliven it on a day-to-day basis (themselves) are most likely to do so. At the end of the day it is people’s perceptions of how great, or not so great, their places are that matters most…I have yet to attend a public hearing on a proposed project where anything resembling “community attachment” has emerged in the dialogue that emanates from the planners, or engineers, or architects, or those that interpret the rules.
