Get Your Video Captions Professionally Translated With The New YouTube Translation Partners | Online Video Publishing | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

Google Translate has just announced that it is now possible to order professional translations of any video transcription directly from within your YouTube account.

Not only.

You can also get an immediate time delivery estimate and a precise cost for the translation task and you can pay immediately for it via credit card/PayPal.

From the official Google Translate blog: "Now you can connect directly with translation vendors and pay to get your captions translated quickly and professionally.

When you request a translation for your captions in YouTube, we’ll display a list of vendors along with their estimated pricing and delivery date so you can easily compare. We’ve initially collaborated with two companies, Gengo and Translated.net, to make their services available to you and to streamline the ordering process."

Key Ingredients To Create An Effective Explainer Video

Key Ingredients To Create An Effective Explainer Video | Online Video Publishing | Scoop.it

Via Giuseppe Mauriello
Robin Good's insight:

If you are about to create a video tutorial, or a clip that needs to illustrate "what something is" or how it works, here is a small guide with nine recommendations that you may want to take into serious consideration before shooting.

Here three of those nine suggestions:

1) The Shorter the Better:
According to writer and creative director, Helen Klein Ross, “the less you say, the more likely people are to remember.” We realize you have a lot you want to tell people about your business, but this video is meant to be an overview, the “hook” that gets people interested in taking the next step.
The typical rule of thumb in the industry is 150 words per minute.

2) KISS (Keep it Simple Silly):
Good explainer videos focus on 4 simple things:
- The problem – Address the pain your customers are having (0:00-0:20)
- The solution – Introduce your product or service as the answer (0:20-0:25)
- How it works – Briefly describe how it works or how to get started (0:25-0:50)
- A call to action – Tell people what to do next (0:50-0:60)

3) Benefits, not Features:
It’s the benefits that really matter to customers.
Instead of droning on about technical nonsense, tell people how your product or service is going to make their lives better.

There are six more to check out in this good original article by Andrew Follett.

Good advice. 8/10

Convert Any Presentation Into a Talking Video in Your Preferred Language: SlideTalk.net

Robin Good's insight:

SlideTalk.net is a new web service which can easily transform a static slide-based set of slides into a video presentation with a voice-over track, without you needing to do much beyond writing what you need to be said. For free.

SlideTalk.net, is a Swedish startup that has created a web-based app that allows you to upload a presentation and to add a professional voice track to it, by simply writing the text that you want to be spoken on each slide. That text will be then converted by the Acapela powerful text-to-speech engine before your slides and the accompanying voice track will be encoded into a new video that can be easily uploaded to YouTube.

I have been really impressed by the range of voices available (70) and the international languages supported by this system (30) powered by the Acapela TTS engine.

The artificial voices sound reasonably realistic and human to my ear.

Not only. It is also quite easy to "personalize" the TTS (text-to-speech) results, by having the option to switch voices at any time, to control reading speed, and other factors by just using specific commands within the text accompanying each slide. (Read more about this here: http://slidetalk.net/Home/EditTips)

Free to use while in Beta. Free and paid versions after launch.

Crowdsource Your YouTube Subtitles and International Language Captions for Free with Amara

Crowdsource Your YouTube Subtitles and International Language Captions for Free with Amara | Online Video Publishing | Scoop.it

...enable viewer-created translations and captions on your YouTube channel.

Robin Good's insight:

Crowd-subtitling platform Amara.org has launched a free service that allows any YouTube creator to invite viewers to subtitle their videos and sync the subtitles to their YouTube account.

This is the first-ever subtitle crowdsourcing option available for free to YouTube users, letting them invite viewers to translate their videos into dozens of languages.  (Amara is also launching a professional version of the feature for companies and organizations that want to take their channel global.)

The new YouTube app launched today gives any YouTube user a crowdsourced translation and captioning system.

How it works: For YouTube users, the functionality is simple.  They visit Amara.org, connect their YouTube channel, and any videos in their YouTube channel will include a link inviting users to help subtitle.  When subtitles are created by a user, for example a Spanish translation, they will be synced automatically back to the YouTube account and will be available on any site in which the video is embedded.

Download and Convert Video Clips in Full Resolution From YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion with ClipGrab

Download and Convert Video Clips in Full Resolution From YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion with ClipGrab | Online Video Publishing | Scoop.it

Robin Good's insight:

ClipGrab is a great free app for Mac that allows you to easily download any video clip in full resolution from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion and several other video sharing sites.

Particularly useful for video curators, journalists and reporters, ClipGrab makes very easy to grab and download at the best possible quality almost any video found online, while simplifying the process and time it takes to do it.

I have tried and tested it and I must say that it works flawlessly. You provide the URL of the video, select the video format (.MP4, .WMV, Ogg Theora or .MP3/Ogg) and the quality level (from 240P to 720P) you want and then ClipGrab does the rest by saving the final, converted file on your selected folder.

ClipGrab can also search and find instantly video clips on any topic you want, saving you the time that it would take to open another browser window, search for it and grab its URL.

Available in multiple languages.

Excellent. Recommended.

100% Better Than H.264: HEVC alas H.265 Is Coming

100% Better Than H.264: HEVC alas H.265 Is Coming | Online Video Publishing | Scoop.it

Robin Good's insight:

The new video codec standard promising reduced file sizes, better compression and faster downloads its making its final rounds of approval while being gradually integrated into new products (the iPad already does).

Within a year or two it will be on our video export option list.

From the blog at Dreamtek.tv: "HEVC (sometimes called H.265) succeeds H.264 and is set to become essential to the development and distribution of high resolution video formats, such as Ultra High Definition.

The first devices to deploy HEVC support are expected to reach market early this year, Rovi Corporation announced at CES this month. The standard is expected to be ratified in early 2013."

"Once deployed, video consumers should be able to download video at the same quality as today in up to half the time, using up half the storage space when they do."

"HEVC/H.265 supports resolutions up to 8,192-x-4,320 and delivers double the data compression ratio of H.264. Where H.264 supports a maximum macroblock of 16-x-16 pixels, HEVC delivers up to 64-x-64 pixels."

Must read. 7/10

Designer Your Own Custom Branded Video Player with Flowplayer Designer

Designer Your Own Custom Branded Video Player with Flowplayer Designer | Online Video Publishing | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

The new FlowPlayer Designer allows you to design and customize the look and branding of your own video player and then it generates the code to embed it on your web site.

If you publish video clips that are not publicly hosted (as when they are published on YouTube) but reside on your own server or on cloud services like Amazon S3, then you must have a video player to serve your video content on your site or private membership site.

With Flowplayer Designer you can integrate your own company logo, select between nine pre-designed looks, control the colors of the individual elements of the player and set what controls are visible and available to the final viewer.

Free to use.

The Portable Stereo Microphone for iPhone & iPad: The RØDE iXY | Online Video Publishing | Scoop.it
RØDE iXY Stereo Microphone for iPhone & iPad
Robin Good's insight:

If you are a videomaker, you know how important audio is to your final production, and having something better than the built-in camcorder mike is always a good idea. The RØDE iXY is a good recording microphone for any iPhone or iPad that you can use to record separately your audio track, to be rejoined later to your video clip inside yoyr favorite video editing program (iMovie, Moviemaker, Vegas, FinalCut, Premiere, etc.)

The iXY can record with a quality of 24-bit/96k and it has on-board high-fidelity A/D conversion.

"At the heart of the iXY is a matched pair of ½” cardioid condenser capsules, fixed in a perfect 90 degree ‘near-coincident’ alignment.

This results in immersive and true-to-life stereo recordings, captured in incredibly high detail. The iXY is supplied with a foam windshield for outdoor recording as well as a reinforced protective zip case to ensure your iXY is available whenever you need it."

Price: $ 199

"Broadcast yourself" in Echtzeit und "social" ... Ich filme mich selbst, wie ich andere beim Filmen beobachte?

Tagmotion's curator insight, January 26, 2013 11:54 PM

Could this be a fillip for musicians......broadcast performances live to the web via social media? With an option of charging fans to watch?

Tagmotion's comment, January 26, 2013 11:56 PM
Could this could be a new way for some musicians/performers to make money....especially those with a fan base on social media, willing to pay to watch in realtime?
