We heard it was coming and now here it is. Amazon has flipped the switch on its "free" video streaming for Prime members, the service we've been hearing about for the past month or so.
If you've already been taking advantage of subscription-based two-day shipping so that your impulse buys get to your door a little quicker you can now enjoy streaming of 5,000 pieces of "prime eligible" content, including some recent movies and a lot of TV shows, much of which will look awfully familiar if you're also a Netflix subscriber.
However, on some foreign films (like The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest above) you have the choice of subtitles or dubbed, and much of this content is still available to "rent" or "buy" if you want to be able to download it to a mobile device.
We're just checking out the service now and will be back with some impressions a little later.

With the heavy convergence of video in both search results and social media, do we now need to distinguish business strategies for optimizing video for search engines versus social media channels?
Is social video optimizing just about placing videos for YouTube and social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn; or is it much more?
With terms such as “social media marketing” and “video SEO” now well-established in the online marketing lexicon, I thought it would be deserving to lend a new definition to a subset of social media marketing with video – “social video optimization.”
I’ve covered social video marketing for ReelSEO rather extensively already; and I’m intrigued to closely follow many new and developing opportunities from it.
That’s why I think it’s helpful for any business that is doing social video, to understand the distinction between the optimization of video for search engine performance versus social media channels; also, between computers and real people.

Did the crowdsourced concert films by Radiohead and the Beastie Boys ever inspire you to produce something similarly community-driven and creative? Because they definitely had that effect on marketing author and speaker David Meerman Scott.
In January 2011, David was the keynote speaker at MarketingSherpa's Email Summit in Las Vegas. His talk about Real-Time Marketing & PR was captured by at least a dozen members of the audience who later contributed their footage for the creation of a crowdsourced marketing video. This video, as David points out, “pulls everything together and gives you a sense of what it was like to be in the audience experiencing the talk in real-time.”

We’ve been talking about the expansive eMarketer report, “7 Trends For Online Video Advertising Engagement,” for most of this week, breaking down the first four trends they’ve outlined over two articles (part 1 & part 2). This is our third and final look, focusing on the final three video advertising engagement trends: user control, viral video marketing, and social activity. Even though we’ve broken our coverage of this report down over three articles, it’s still not doing justice to the mountain of great graphs, data, and case-studies it contains, and I’d encourage you to make some time to read through the whole thing–at least… if you’re concerned about the engagement levels of your videos’ audience.

When a large brand like Pepsi or Old Spice decides to use video, there are a lot of factors they have to consider: What message is their video expressing? How will it affect their customers? When should they release it for maximum impact?
Small businesses have to contend with all those same issues, but with smaller staffs and less money.
Despite the challenges, there is value in video for small businesses, even if you’re a video greenhorn. We found four businesses that have had real world success thanks to video.
These are just some examples of what to do, and even what to avoid if you’re looking to add video to your small business’s promotional mix.

Video curation startup ShortForm is unveiling a new feature that will let its users broadcast their video channels on their own personal blogs and other websites.
Using the new ShortForm widget, publishers can embed their own video player and curated channel lineups, opening the service and potential viewership beyond the ShortForm.com site.
ShortForm enables users to create their own channels of online video content, pulling from sources like YouTube and running videos side-by-side.
The goal is to tap its video jockeys, or VJs, to assemble relevant groups of videos, which ShortForm eventually expects to place interstitial ads between. Once that happens, the startup hopes to share its ad revenue with the VJs who create those channels.
